Hurricanes Ravage Haiti: World Relief Responds
 Source: Alertnet.org
World Relief is responding to the desperate situation in Haiti in the aftermath of Hurricanes Ike and Gustav and Tropical Storms Fay and Hanna.
The storms have claimed hundreds of lives, uprooted thousands of families, and swamped entire communities.
The storm devastation comes on top of a food crisis that has led to rioting in the streets of the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere.
World Relief is working with local partners at the scene to get crucial relief supplies into the hands of those who need help the most.
Relief teams will provide food and clothing for 600 displaced people in Gonaives, and carry out emergency food distributions in several hard-hit areas.

Death Toll Climbs
As the floodwaters recede and more bodies are discovered, the death toll continues to climb. Some sources put the current number of dead at more than 1,000.
The United Nations has expressed concern that large-scale riots could break out if relief supplies do not reach desperate survivors soon.
