Our mission is to empower the local church to serve the most vulnerable. While this looks different from context to context and from country to country, World Relief DuPage/Aurora has identified the foreign born as being among the most vulnerable in our
community. We seek to provide comprehensive support for the church as they increasingly work alongside this under-resourced group, while also supplying the technical expertise to assure quality programs.
The local Church is best represented by the Biblical term, "Body of Christ." This includes institutional congregations and also refers more broadly to the people of God. While there may be many "congregations" in one area, there is truly only one "Church."
Foreign Born individuals (immigrants) are those who've been born in a country separate from the one in which they currently reside. Refugees are immigrants who have fled across an international border because of persecution or a
well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion,
nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political
opinion.
While each immigrant story is unique, we have one Biblical mandate to "treat the alien living [among us] as one of [our] native born" (Leviticus 19:34a). Therefore, we "seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly" (Micah 6:8) as we minister to foreign-born families who long to establish a home within U.S. borders.
