FOR YOU

How Can I Help?

Global Church Responds to Earthquake in Haiti

“Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.” – II Corinthians 8.2

The Global Church—often out of extreme poverty-- is welling up in rich generosity on behalf of the people suffering after Haiti’s earthquake.

In Rwanda, local churches across the country are committed to praying for Haiti and taking up offerings for relief efforts.  World Relief's staff in Rwanda gave more than $3,000.

In Cambodia, where most people live on less than $2 a day, a cell church attended by a World Relief staff member took up a collection.  “When I heard about the earthquake in Haiti, God touched my heart again. Our whole cell-church decided to give money to the people who are affected by this.  We are happy that we can help,” Sidara said.

In China, World Relief’s three staff members dug into their personal bank accounts and gave over $800—sacrificially responding to the urgent needs of Haiti’s people.

A church of recently arrived Burmese refugees in High Point, North Carolina, took up a special offering for Haiti.  The congregation—often struggling to meet their own personal and church budgets—presented a check to World Relief’s affiliate director for more than $500.

As churches from all over the world stand with Haiti, they are empowering the Haitian church to serve their communities.

In Haiti, Pastor Jean Bathard Anthony stepped out in faith, opened up his church after the earthquake with the little water and food that he had.  World Relief came alongside Pastor Jean, providing refuge, food and water for nearly 6,000 people in the community.

As they share practical goods—food, water and other basic needs—the people of Haiti are experiencing the love of the Christ—the love of the Church.

As one Haitian partner pastor observed, “When you provide for someone it will touch their heart.  Then they will see the love of God in you.”

Thank you for sharing the love of Christ with Haiti.

Thank you for being the Church.
