Indonesia
Unlocking a land of diversity
With nearly 200 unreached people groups and 230 million people spread out across 17,000 islands — Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world.
But the Church is growing and vibrant, even while facing persecution in some areas.
Located where four tectonic plates meet, Indonesia is prone to natural disasters like earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis. On December 31, 2004, two tsunamis hit conflict-ridden Aceh and opened doors that had been shut to the outside world for over twenty years. In 2005, an earthquake shook Nias, one of the poorest islands in Indonesia.
On the other side of the country, a different kind of disaster is taking place in Papua. Even though Papua has the highest rate of HIV/AIDS infection in all of Indonesia, 48 percent of the population has never heard of the disease.
The Church has heard the cry of the Indonesians – from Aceh to Papua. Will you join us in reaching to the ends of the earth?
