The process of empowering individuals to improve their lives is the key of education. World Relief does this through formal education – ensuring children continue to stay in school – and also non-formal education – bringing vital information about health, nutrition, economics and finance to people through our extensive volunteer network.

Life Changing Testimonies

Nine-year-old Long Hai is the youngest of her sisters. Her favorite part of the Hope for Cambodia’s Children (HFCC) meetings is the puppet show. She plants her legs slightly apart as she recites the lesson learned that day, “To be careful that we don’t get drowned…another time it was about hygiene.”

Her two sisters also are at the meeting. Long Hang, age 13, is in the fourth grade. Eleven-year-old Long Him is in third grade. The three girls are Christians but say their parents are not. “They believe a little bit,” said Long Him.

The girls’ mother is also at the HFCC meeting. “I come and watch every week also,” said Youm, age 38. “I learned several new things.”

Youm says that even if she doesn’t remember the health lessons, her daughters remind her of what they learn at HFCC. “The children come home and say, ‘Before we eat, we must wash our hands, and before we sleep, we must shower.’” Her daughters also tell her about prayer.
