Where We WorkWhere We Work

Plagued by food insecurity and the scourge of AIDS, life expectancy in Malawi is just 41 years.  At least 85 percent of the people survive on subsistence agriculture – growing their own food.

Often, AIDS, hunger and poverty are interlinked.  World Relief seeks to build the capacity of vulnerable households to improve their diet, health and economic stability within the framework of a caring Christian community.

World Relief’s church-centered programs benefit more than 416,000 people in Malawi – 3 percent of the total population of 12 million.

Recognizing that the complex problems of poverty, food insecurity, AIDS and childhood diseases require a comprehensive response, World Relief works towards integration of its programs in the areas of health, sustainable agriculture, AIDS prevention and care, child development, refuge, and income generation.

Our holistic approach builds the capacity of households to stabilize their situation and then advance economically, socially and spiritually.

Working in the central districts of Nkhotakota, Salima and Ntchisi and the northern districts of Mzimba and Chitipa, our primary goal is church mobilization – empowering local  churches to reach into the heart of their communities to foster wellness and fullness of life.
