Each June, communities across the United States and around the world come together to recognize Refugee Awareness Month—a time to honor the courage, resilience and contributions of refugees and to reflect on our shared call to welcome those seeking safety.
This year, World Relief is inviting communities everywhere to Believe in More.
In this crucial moment in history more people than ever have been forced to flee their homes. It can be easy to believe the crisis is too big and the challenges too complex.
But we believe families displaced by crisis can rebuild their lives in safety and dignity. We believe they can move beyond survival toward stability, belonging, and the chance to flourish. We believe that, together, we can play a role in making that vision a reality.
Moving Toward Flourishing

World Relief has been walking alongside refugees and immigrants in Baltimore since 2004. From our long-standing Immigration Legal Services to community integration services for newly arrived refugees, we partner with local churches and community members to create welcoming communities where individuals and families flourish.
“As we reflect on World Refugee Day, ‘Believe in More’ is embodied by the 36.4 million refugees worldwide whose courage carries them beyond loss toward hope. Here in Baltimore, we witness that belief as it takes root. Little by little, families rebuild their lives—finding not just safety, but community, meaningful work, and holistic wellness. Even after unimaginable hardship, I’m continually inspired by the resilience of the people we serve and the commitment of our partners who serve with us.” – Daniel Wilkinson, Executive Director, World Relief Baltimore
Last year, we served over 400 refugees and immigrants, recruited over 38 volunteers, and mobilized 24 churches engaged. To share just one story of impact, this past year one of our volunteers began facilitating an English group for six Afghan women who, due to Taliban restrictions or cultural barriers, were never given the opportunity to attend school in Afghanistan. Now, as adults, they are learning the fundamentals of how to read and write—something we in the U.S. have had the privilege of access. With the help of a strong curriculum, a passionate leader, and a vibrant community fostered in resilience and trust, the women are thriving. Through this program, we are meeting these women where they are, honoring their culture, and cultivating spaces where growth can happen at every level. Through World Relief’s programs, refugees are not only gaining practical skills, but they are also finding their voices, building confidence, and stepping into new opportunities. Together, they are building something lasting: community, dignity, and hope.
While this is just one story, it reflects a larger transformation happening right here in Baltimore. This June, join us as we Believe in More.
Celebrating Hope and Belonging
During Refugee Awareness Month — and especially on World Refugee Day (June 20) — we’re inviting our community to come together through opportunities to learn, connect and act.
On Wednesday, June 24, we are hosting Believe in More: The Global Displacement Crisis & You. This interactive webinar will give an overview of our work at World Relief Baltimore as well as a Q&A time and some practical ways you can show up and speak up for your refugee and immigrant neighbors. Register for this event here.
World Relief Baltimore is partnering with community members and churches to raise money in honor of the strength, resilience, and contributions of our refugee and immigrant neighbors. No matter which avenue you choose, any funds donated during the month of June will be matched by a generous donor and go towards scaling our Good Neighbor Teams initiative. Learn how you can join us to Believe in More.
Whether you attend an event, volunteer your time, or give to support this work, you are helping create a community where refugees and immigrants can rebuild their lives and truly belong.
