Employment & Wellness Services

Having fled poverty, persecution, and war, refugees, asylees, and other immigrants often arrive in the United States with high hopes of building a better life for themselves and their children. Upon arrival, however, they face a staggering number of challenges as they seek to rebuild their lives. Not only do these families have many tangible needs to meet, such as housing, transportation, employment, and health care, but they also face a number of intangible challenges as they learn to navigate a foreign culture, far away from their friends and family.

Many struggle with feelings of isolation, despair, anxiety and depression. World Relief’s holistic Employment & Wellness program is designed to help our new neighbors overcome these barriers so they can not only survive, but thrive, in their new home.

Employment is currently one of the most urgent needs of the families we serve. While we are grateful to be able to continue supporting refugees and immigrants with job search and other case management services, we unfortunately no longer have funding that enables us to assist with rent and utilities. This limitation along with recent changes to public benefits limiting the support available to refugees and immigrants means that the vulnerability of the people we serve has increased dramatically. This makes rapid employment very important! Our Employment & Wellness program assists work-authorized refugees and immigrants who are unemployed, underemployed, or pursuing a specific career goal. Our clients are eager to work and have a wide variety of language skills and professional backgrounds.

We equip refugees and immigrants with the skills needed to enter the workforce. We walk alongside our clients as they go through the job process, including resume building, interview preparation, job placements and employee expectations. We also partner with a vast network of employers who value the experiences of immigrants.

Creating a Community of Belonging

At World Relief, we partner with the local church and hundreds of individual volunteers to assist newly arrived families in the United States. Since World Relief launched national resettlement services 40 years ago, we’ve welcomed nationally over 294,000 refugees to the United States in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, and have served over 125,000 other immigrants by providing vital services and community connections.

Whether it’s securing housing, supplying basic necessities, or enrolling children in school, we come alongside these families every step of the way as they begin on the path to belonging.

“We cannot fulfill our mission without the partnership of local churches, and we’re eager to engage local churches in each of these new communities as we begin refugee resettlement.”

-Myal Greene, President and CEO of World Relief

"You feel like people love you. A lot of people are alone, and here [at World Relief], they feel they are important. This place gives confidence to people. Before I came here, I didn’t want to go outside and talk to people. After I studied here, I felt confident. I could go outside and do several things by myself."
