Volunteer Opportunity: Good Neighbor Team
Position Overview:
Good Neighbor Teams (GNT) are community groups who are matched with a refugee family. These teams commit to walking alongside newcomers for 6 months with the goal that each refugee who arrives to the U.S. will feel the warm welcome of their local community. GNTs help newcomers integrate into their new community through mutual relationship building, the exchange of cultures, teaching life skills, and assisting the local World Relief office with providing core services for the Reception and Placement Program.
Key Responsibilities:
Commitment: 6-month commitment
Connection: Provide friendship and support that lead to a path of self-sufficiency and integration for newcomers. Utilize connections and resources to help newcomers navigate opportunities available to them. Engage in regular social interactions with assigned individuals to promote cultural exchange and understanding.
Collaboration: Provide support to IWS (initial welcome services) around R&P core services: housing, language classes, employment services, transportation assistance, community connection, health and mental health, financial management, school enrollments, and legal services (if applicable).
Regular Reporting: Log volunteer hours
Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

- Patience, empathy, and a willingness to listen actively.
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness of cross-cultural communication dynamics.
- Reliability and commitment to fulfilling volunteer duties.
Time Commitment: Weekly commitment (6 months)
Training and Support:
- Volunteers will receive comprehensive training on cultural competency, cross-cultural communication, and R&P services.
- Ongoing support and supervision will be provided by program staff to address any questions or concerns.
