Volunteer Opportunity: Early Childhood Education

Position Summary:

As a Digital Literacy Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in helping individuals from diverse backgrounds enhance their computer and internet skills. Your efforts will enable learners to pursue new opportunities in education, work, and everyday life, bridging the digital divide and fostering inclusivity.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct basic to intermediate computer skills training sessions for adults and seniors, including internet safety, email, word processing, and social media navigation.
  2. Assist learners in understanding how to use digital devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
  3. Develop and prepare educational materials and lesson plans tailored to the needs of the group or individual learners.
  4. Provide one-on-one support to learners, helping them overcome specific challenges and achieve personal learning goals.
  5. Set up and manage learning tools and technology needed for each session.
  6. Monitor and record learners' progress, providing feedback and adjusting lesson plans as necessary.
  7. Stay updated on new tools, technologies, and digital literacy practices to improve the program continuously.
  8. Log volunteer hours in the WR Portal.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Confidence in basic computer and internet skills; proficiency in common tasks, like making phone calls, checking email, and using Google
  2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to teach and engage learners of varying skill levels and backgrounds.
  3. Patience and empathy, with a passion for teaching and helping others.
  4. Previous experience in education, training, or a similar role is advantageous but not required.
  5. Volunteers must be dependable and punctual, with the ability to commit to scheduled times.

 

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per client session (flexible scheduling). Ideally 2-4 client sessions per month.

 

Duration: Minimum 3 months commitment preferred

  1. The general short-term/long-term volunteer onboarding process includes an application, online workshop, and background check.
  2. Review any curriculum or materials given to you before meeting with a client.
