Services

R&P provides initial services for their first 30-90 days in the country. The program is designed to help refugees achieve self-sufficiency and integration into American society. These initial services include access to housing, essential furnishings, food, clothing, community/cultural orientation, and employment services.

As part of the cooperative agreement, R&P also seeks to connect newly arrived families with volunteers and community members to help them along their path to self-sufficiency. Because refugees arrive with what they can pack in a suitcase, R&P also seeks donations to fully furnish new refugee homes.

The Refugee Social Services (RSS) program can serve clients for up to five years after their arrival in the United States and has two main components. First, it offers employment services. Second,it offers casework for some clients, provided by RSS caseworkers. The overall goal of casework is teaching self-sufficiency, so the RSS caseworkers do not help clients for their full five years of eligibility.

The Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) program offers financial and casework services during the first eight months after arrival. The minimal financial assistance is intended to support the basic expenses of clients while they are becoming self-sufficient. Clients follow the strict requirements of the RCA contract, and in return receive monthly RCA checks that are used to pay their rent and utility bills.

The RCA program also employs several caseworkers that work to remove barriers to a client’s self-sufficiency. Solutions to barriers can include medical appointments, transportation resource training, referrals to community resources, and guidance through institutional structures. Caseworkers for the RCA program work with a client until either the case has reached self-sufficiency or until the eight-month mark.

An Affidavit of Relationship (AOR) is the application by which persons previously admitted to the United States as refugees or granted asylum can claim a relationship with certain overseas family members. The purpose of this application is to assist the U.S. Department of State in determining if the overseas family members qualify to apply for the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) for family reunification.

We equip refugees and immigrants with the skills needed to enter the workforce. We walk alongside our clients as they go through the job process, including resume building, interview preparation, job placements and employee expectations.
