About Volunteering at Presideo
Volunteers are the engine driving Presideo’s work of protection. We envision a national network of volunteer attorneys and others walking alongside asylum seekers. All volunteers require a background check regardless of volunteer role. We are currently recruiting volunteers in the following roles, and may add others in the future.
Pro Bono Attorneys
- At a minimum, commit to assist with the pro se preparation of one asylum application, though full direct representation is preferred
- Must have an active law license. Can maintain own malpractice coverage or rely on WR’s malpractice coverage
Law Student Interns
- Commit to 10 hours per week during the fall or spring semesters or 40 hours per week during the summer
Interpreters
- Be available to assist to interpret with client meetings between attorneys
- Fluency in English and the target language required
- Assistance primarily needed in Dari, Pashto, Farsi, Chinese, Arabic, Urdu, Russian, Amharic, Somali and Tigrinya
Interpreters
- Assist with the formal translation of case documentation and client declarations
- Formal certification or training is not required
- Assistance primarily needed in Dari, Pashto, Farsi, Chinese, Arabic, Urdu, Russian, Amharic, Somali and Tigrinya
Chaplains
- Clergy members who are willing to be a source of spiritual support to asylum seekers
- Willing to check-in with a client periodically by phone or video call
