Group Service Projects
Donation Collection Activity
Support newly-arrived refugees and asylum seekers by collecting and assembling top need donation items. The WR donation team will connect with you to give some potential ideas, such as assembling first aid kits, winter gear bundles, bike kits, etc., and to coordinate a delivery time. No maximum group size or designated dates, other than delivery dates.
Furniture Assembly Project
Build needed furniture items that will go directly into the new apartments of newly-arrived refugees and asylum seekers. Groups can purchase IKEA furniture items, like dressers and coffee tables, assemble them together as an event, and drop them off at our office. The WR donation team will connect with you to let you know specific furniture items that are top needs and to coordinate a delivery time. No maximum group size or designated dates, other than delivery dates.
Warehouse Support
Spend 2-3 hours in our Carol Stream warehouse sorting donations, assembling Welcome Kits for newly-arriving families, or help with another donation assembly, sorting, cleaning, etc. Maximum of 15 people per group. Warehouse days happen on the third weekend of each month, preferably on Saturday.
Conversation Cafe
Spend 60 minutes on Zoom with an Adult Education class and help a student practice a conversation in English. 10-20 people per group. Volunteers will be in groups of 2 and practice conversations in break-out rooms with students. Conversation cafes happen once a month typically at the lunch hour during the week.
