Stage 2
Samandar: New beginnings are often painful endings in disguise. It's not easy to say goodbye to your family when you don't know when you'll see them again. Six months in Pakistan were ahead of me waiting to be a settle. We had food and we had daily chores.
Narrator: Samandar applied for a special immigrant visa. Granted to people from Afghanistan and Iraq who worked for the U.S. government during the war.
Samandar: I was always positive that I would be accepted in the U. S., but I had a lot of time to think of what did I do to have to leave my loved ones. I knew staying away from them was going to keep them safer, so I had to keep my head up and continue the process in Pakistan.
The waiting is difficult, full of ups and downs, but thanks to the faith instilled by my family, I was able to handle the roller coaster of emotions in the solitude. Turning your obstacles into opportunities. And problems into possibilities was my way of thinking.
