Volunteer Role Descriptions & Resources
Good Neighbor Teams
A Good Neighbor Team is a small group of people from a local church that partners with World Relief to welcome and walk alongside a newly arrived refugee family. Our goal is for each refugee who arrives in the U.S. to feel the warm welcome of his/her local community. Refugees are survivors, leaders, and entrepreneurs who have so much to contribute to those of us who welcome and befriend them. While refugees may also have some significant needs as they first arrive and face the challenges of adjustment, they can be an incredible blessing to the community receiving them. Good Neighbor Teams offer a way to facilitate long-term, reciprocal relationships.
Home Set-Up Teams
Home Set-up Teams (HSTs) offer churches or small groups a way to welcome and support refugees and immigrants as they arrive in the Triad. HSTs engage their church and community to help gather material needs for a home, then prepare, and setup the homes for a family of newcomers. Teams commit to sponsoring between 1-4 home preparations within a year. The HST and World Relief will agree on a two-month window in which the home setup will happen. As that time gets closer the team starts to gather items and once there is a newcomer family with housing secured, World Relief and the HST will decide on a final set update. This is a great hands-on service project for a group that also provides an opportunity to engage the wider church and community in gathering items to bless a family who is starting over.
Community Integration Partner
A Community Integration Partner (CIP) is a volunteer that works with World Relief clients to establish roots in the Triad through building a relationship and providing an understanding of common practices within U.S. communities.
Interpreter
We are always looking for individuals who are willing to provide interpretation for our clients. Our current need is volunteers who can speak Dari.
Youth Mentor
The Youth Mentoring Program (YMP) of World Relief Triad exists to empower students to identify and resolve obstacles in order to thrive in their environments such as: school, workplace, family, and community. We do this by creating spaces that will cultivate mentoring relationships between refugee, immigrant youth, and volunteers. A mentor will develop relationships and engage in activities that will give mentees new experiences. There are four volunteer roles under this program including Mentors, Tutors, Presenters, and Experiential Learning Guides.
Office Support
Office support volunteers assist the Triad office with front desk interactions and other administrative tasks.
Warehouse Support
Help create a welcoming home for new arrivals by assisting with donation pick-up/drop-off, donation processing, and warehouse organization.
