Donate a Welcome Kit to a Newly Arriving Refugee Family

Thank you for seeking out ways to help welcome refugees.

We’re so grateful for your interest in welcome kits, however in light of the recent changes to U.S. immigration policy, there are other, more urgent ways our U.S. offices need your help. Here's how you can show support for refugees right now.

Welcome Kits

Refugees often flee their homes at a moment’s notice. They arrive at a U.S. airport with few belongings, a difficult past and high hopes for the future. An important first step in making them feel welcome is to provide each family with a Welcome Kit. These kits include kitchen supplies, bedding, hygiene and other household items.

World Relief invites you to provide a Welcome Kit and come alongside refugees as they begin their journey in America. Whether you're mobilizing your community to collect donations, spreading awareness through your church, or purchasing a kit yourself, we're grateful you've chosen to join us in standing with the vulnerable.

Questions about Welcome Kits

What are Welcome Kits?

Welcome Kits are a collection of basic household goods given to newly arriving refugees by the World Relief volunteers introducing them to their new home. These kits help refugees start building a new life here in the United States, and are a great way for individuals and churches to help meet a practical need for refugees. When you sign up to provide a Welcome Kit, you’ll get an email with the all the resources you need to get started.

Can we meet the refugee families that receive our Welcome Kits?

We would love for you to volunteer and spend time with refugees in your community. While we don’t track the Welcome Kits to specific families, each World Relief office offers other ways to foster personal connections with refugees. The Good Neighbor Teams program trains and introduces volunteers to a refugee family in need of friendship, community, belonging, and acceptance. To learn more, visit our Good Neighbor Teams section.

Is there a way to get gift receipts for donations?

Yes. Please contact the World Relief office that will be receiving your Welcome Kits donations for a tax-deductible receipt.

Do you take donations not specifically mentioned in the Welcome Kit materials, like cars or used furniture?

Yes! Furniture donations, for example, are very helpful in setting up an apartment for newly arrived refugees. Please reach out to your local office to find out what needs they currently have, and how they receive larger donations. To find your closest office, submit the form above or visit our U.S. Locations .

Can someone from World Relief come and speak at my church about refugees?

World Relief has staff members across the country who are happy to discuss the topic of refugees at your church, whether by sharing stories or setting up a table. You can reach out directly to your closest U.S. office, or Request a Speaker

Welcoming a Refugee Family

Welcome Kits are the first step in the longer journey towards helping a refugee family feel at home in the U.S. Their needs are varied, as our volunteers explain: “Some people need a soft word; some people need a couch; some people need a friend.”  Watch the journey unfold for one family through the eyes of their assigned volunteers.
