You can learn what it's like to work at a refugee resettlement agency, teach alongside our talented ESL instructors, assist our immigration legal team, support our children and youth programs, or put your administrative skills to work! Through an internship at World Relief Sacramento, you will develop professional and operational skills, build meaningful relationships and learn about local and global immigration issues.

Case Worker Intern
The Resettlement Intern position will support the Resettlement case worker team by focusing on guiding newly arrived refugees through 90 days of services. These duties include, Airport Pick Up, assisting Apartment Set Up (ASU’s) with our warehouse team and communicating with US Ties who play a key role in refugee arrivals. US Tie’s are often the sole support that newly famiies receive upon their arrival and World Relief has strong relationships with the US Ties even before the families arrive. Interns may be tasked to communicate, coordinate, and work with the US Ties to ensure that families are welcomed and post arrival tasks are arranged and secured. Interns may be tasked with scheduling client appointments, transporting clients to appointments such as Department of Human Services (DHA) and the Refugee Health Clinic (RHC.) Interns are tasked to check in with case workers on daily tasks that they may be able to assist them with. This position is subject to various duties around supporting the resettlement caseworkers on setting clients up for success as they resettle in the USA.

Immigration and Legal Services Intern
Immigration and Legal Service Interns will interview clients in-person and telephonically related to applications (including but not limited to naturalization and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival renewal applications), observe consultation interviews, prepare immigration legal documents, assist with case management, research immigration law, and participate in trainings in-person and via webinar.
Qualifications:
- Academic-year and summer internships are open to undergraduate or graduate students, ideally current law students. applicants in their 2L, 3L or 4L years.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Fluent in one or more of the following languages in addition to English: Spanish, Farsi, Dari, Arabic, or Russian (strongly preferred)
- Have taken an introductory immigration law course or have prior immigration law experience and are either a current or former law student (strongly preferred)
ESL Literacy Teaching Assistant for Afghan Women’s Program
ESL Literacy Teaching Assistants will learn and implement literacy teaching techniques with preliterate Afghan learners, provide in-class support to ESL Instructor in virtual classes, assist with testing and tracking clients’ learning gains, and help prepare educational materials and learning packets.
Qualifications:
- Able to follow directions, learn, and retain new information quickly
- Outgoing, friendly, quickly builds rapport, and puts people at ease
- Able to work effectively and sensitively with people of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds
- Comfortable communicating cross-culturally with clients using limited English
- Cross cultural experience a plus
- Familiar with computers and phone apps such as Zoom and WhatsApp
- Able to teach a small group of learners; prior teaching experience a plus
- Commitment to a minimum of 10 hours/week
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Education/TESOL background strongly preferred

Tech Support Intern for Afghan Women’s Program
Tech Support Interns will track the department’s lending laptops, help clients obtain free phones and affordable phone plans, and train clients in the basics of digital literacy (phone and laptop usage). They will also provide multiple in-person, socially distanced tech support visits to clients who are facing problems with their laptops and phones and will assist with creating digital literacy training materials.
Qualifications:
- Familiar with WhatsApp and Zoom
- Be comfortable working with both iPhones and Androids
- Able to follow directions, learn, and retain new information quickly
- Able to work independently and self-manage tasks and time
- Able to troubleshoot phone and computer problems
- Outgoing in meeting new people and quickly building rapport
- Comfortable communicating cross-culturally with clients using limited English
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable personal transportation
- Females only, in respect for the cultural values of the population served
- Preferably lives in Carmichael, Arden-Arcade, or North Highlands, near where clients live, to make quick tech support visits.
Workforce Development Intern
Workforce Development Interns will provide employment support through:
- Employer executive summary creation
- Job searching and maintain open jobs spreadsheet
- Resume creation
- Employment client account creation such as LinkedIn and Indeed
- Job application support
- Transportation, as needed for select clients
- Obtaining proof of employment or other required documentation
Qualifications:
- Organized and willing to do research and maintain databases
Economic Empowerment Education Intern
Economic Empowerment Education Interns will provide educational support through:
- Educational resource creation; including developing course guides
- Scheduling classes, interpreters, and volunteers
- Zoom support
- Resume creation/interview prep
- Opportunity to teach a class
- Assist in the recording and development of training videos
- Update and maintain WRS systems (Dynamics, Teams, casenotes, casefiles)
- Interpretation/translation as needed if fluent in Dari, Pashto, or Arabic
Qualifications:
- Organization skills
- Ability to clearly communicate written and spoken English.
- Ability to use proper grammar to develop written educational resources in English.
- Ability to work effectively and sensitively with people of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds
- Ability to speak clearly and comfortably on the phone with partners and participants, which include people with limited English abilities and/or the use of interpreters
- Ability to utilize communication over internet tools such as Zoom and other programs
- Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto preferred
Economic Empowerment Administrative Intern
Economic Empowerment Administrative Interns will provide administrative support to the EE team, including but not limited to:
- Program support: reports and compliance reviews
- Resource development and organization
- Employment support as needed that includes: resume creation, interview prep, onboarding support, referral information etc.
- Transportation, as needed for select clients

Employment Specialist Intern
The Employment Specialist Intern will support the Employment Specialist as part of the team, with a focus on rapid stabilization through employment for newly arrived refugees. Program participants are supported through employment placement and retention services and social support services. This position will assist the Employment Specialist with case management for employment related casework, assist clients in developing holistic self-sufficiency plans, specifically guiding participants toward integration and eliminating barriers to employment. This position will have the opportunity to work directly with clients, employers, and other community service providers including the Department of Human Assistance.

Children & Youth Lead Intern
Children and Youth Lead Interns will help the High School Program Coordinator with the LEAD Program planning: This includes but is not limited to looking up game and craft ideas, learning to develop SEL (social emotional learning) curriculum, finding the prices for materials needed, and drafting email and making calls to Volunteers and students.

Welcome Club Intern
Welcome Club Interns will consist of supporting the Children and Youth team with weekly logistics, program planning, and execution. We will include individualized care to your educational goals. This position requires attention to detail, flexibility, and attendance to weekly meetings as well as program functions. This position may require recruitment in neighborhoods, deliveries to families, in addition to leading Welcome Club groups through curriculum.
