Next Steps to Volunteer

Thank you for submitting your volunteer application. Just a few more final steps to onboard or return as a volunteer! Please read through each section below and take the necessary action steps to continue the process.

Step 1: Volunteer Application (DONE!)

If you are volunteering with family or a group, make sure everyone over the age of 18 fills out an application.

Step 2: Online Orientation

Complete the required New Volunteer Orientation on The Workshop. This 45 minute e-course gives an overview of the work of World Relief, mass displacement and immigration, World Relief’s U.S. programs, and next steps for you as a volunteer with World Relief Spokane.

Step 3: In-Person Orientation

At the end of the online orientation, you will be given an access code to sign up for one of our in person orientations via Eventbrite. This hour and a half training will cover the ins and outs of volunteering with World Relief Spokane.

*If you are part of a church or community team you will complete in-person orientation as a group. Your team leader will notify you about a date, time, and location. You do not need to sign up for an additional in-person orientation via Eventbrite.

*if you are an intern, you will complete an in-person orientation as a group with other interns. The intern coordinator will notify you about a date and time. You do not need to sign up for an additional in-person via Eventbrite.

Step 4: Background Check and References

After you have attended the in-person orientation and we have determined a placement for you, you will receive information to complete your background check. Background Checks are completed through Sterling Volunteers and are good for one year. If you have had a background check with Sterling for another organization in the last year, you can request for them to share the results with us. We will also contact your references at this time. We ask volunteers to cover the cost of background checks (approximately $35). If this is a barrier for you to volunteer please let us know- we want everyone to be able to volunteer with us!

Step 5: Placement

Once your background check is cleared, our volunteer coordination staff will connect you with the program or family you will be serving with! Depending on the role, there may be additional trainings to complete at that time.

Optional Trainings

There are several optional trainings available to you as a World Relief volunteer! Check out all of our e-courses on The Workshop. Use the code wrspokane to waive the registration fee.
