Love. Sacrifice.
Strength. Resilience.
Mother.
At World Relief, we have the privilege of serving alongside mothers and mother figures. We are inspired every day by mothers like Amina whom we met in Geneina, western Sudan, where World Relief operates one of the last remaining health and nutrition centers. When asked what she had eaten during her pregnancy, she replied: "Leaves." With no food in her village, Amina survived on boiled wild greens. After giving birth, she could no longer produce milk, so she walked for hours to a clinic where her child received life-saving care and began to recover. Today, Amina helps other mothers recognize malnutrition and nourish their children.
Around the globe, mothers like Amina are journeying from surviving to flourishing after being uprooted from their homes. In the U.S., there are Aminas rebuilding their lives — including many who are living in fear of increased immigration activities and refugee re-vetting. Donate today in honor of your mother or a maternal figure and know that your gift helps other mothers around the world.
Today, this is our message to displaced mothers and maternal figures, and those who stand by them:
To you who fled conflict with your baby strapped to your back, holding the hand of another child, pressing on to survive — we honor you. .
To you who fast to feed your children in refugee and IDP camps, and even shelter others who have lost their parents — you are our heroes.
To you who start from scratch in another country or culture, toiling day and night so your children have a better future — you inspire us.
And to you, host, volunteer, advocate, who stand shoulder to shoulder with these mothers and their children, opening your homes and hearts — we look up to you.
