Do you have to identify yourself if stopped by police?

Illinois is a Stop and Identify state, meaning we have to identify ourselves. Police are required to have a “reasonable suspicion” of a crime, but because this is a fairly broad standard, it’s generally recognized that we are required to give our name if asked to do so by law enforcement.
