Laila’s Story: A journey from trauma to thriving
Laila is a young girl from Afghanistan, starting over after her family had to flee Afghanistan for their lives. After living in a refugee camp, they finally arrived in the U.S., welcomed to safety in Western Washington by World Relief.
However, Laila was living with health issues and fears no child should ever bear. The trauma didn’t disappear overnight but with steady care and community support, Laila finds hope.
There are many more like Laila.

Children who arrive as refugees have often fled unimaginable trauma. They’ve lost homes, communities and a sense of normalcy. When they arrive in the U.S., they enter a new culture, a new school system and a new language — all while still healing from what they’ve endured.
But these children also bring resilience. They carry courage, adaptability and a readiness to grow.
Compassionate people like you already help them feel seen, welcomed and equipped.
But with funding cuts threatening supportive services, the need is greater than ever. Would you consider increasing your monthly gift by $5, $10, $20 or more to help even more children and their families?
Your upgraded monthly gift can provide:
