Education

Refugees and other immigrants arriving in the U.S. come with a wide variety of educational and linguistic backgrounds, but all share the desire to integrate and thrive in their new home.

Learning English - a gateway to life in the U.S. - is a critical part of this journey. Without basic English language skills, newly arrived refugees and other immigrants are unable to access the resources and services that help them navigate daily life in the US. Economic opportunities are also drastically limited, creating a significant barrier to flourishing in their new country.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

What We Offer

At World Relief Durham, we're working to change this reality.

World Relief Durham education programs include employment readiness, technology, digital literacy, and financial literacy classes for adult refugees. To support learning English, World Relief Durham also enrolls refugee clients in English as a Second Language classes with partnering organizations. As students progress in learning Engish and employment readiness through these courses, they are better prepared to engage in ongoing education, citizenship clases, and pursue their goals. These programs result in students who are confident and able to more successfully navigate day-to-day life in the United States.

“You have helped me obtain direction, support, affection, and the necessary tools to start a new life here in the USA. I could not have reached my goals so quickly without your help. Thank you very much!”
