World Relief joined national evangelical leaders to release an "Evangelical Statement of Principles for Immigration Reform" at a press conference on Capitol Hill. A first for many, the signing of this statement is the beginning of a multi-year campaign to mobilize Christians to advocate for immigration reform.
In response to the moral, economic and political crisis created by the broken immigration system, these individuals recognized that the force of their own efforts could be multiplied by coming together and forming the "Evangelical Immigration Table," a politically and theologically diverse coalition of evangelicals dedicated to ministering to immigrants and advocating a cohesive immigration reform message and strategy. Formally launching the Table's efforts, the "Evangelical Statement of Principles for Immigration Reform," issues a call for a bipartisan solution on immigration that:
• Respects the God-given dignity of every person
• Protects the unity of the immediate family
• Respects the rule of law
• Guarantees secure national borders
• Ensures fairness to taxpayers
• Establishes a path toward legal status and/or citizenship for those
who qualify and who wish to become permanent residents
