World Relief has resettled over 13,000 refugees from Ukraine over the past 18 years via the P2 Lautenberg Program and we ask that you pray that safe travel will be able to resume at a hastened pace soon. 

The Lautenberg program is a family reunification program that allows local resettlement offices to assist certain individuals to apply for family members in former Soviet Union countries to come to the United States. Please see the chart here for who can apply and who may be eligible for resettlement. This process is not an immediate avenue for relocation to the U.S. and beneficiaries will need to be processed through an embassy or consulate. If you are eligible to apply on behalf of your impacted family members, please contact a local World Relief Office. The filing deadline for the Lautenberg program has now closed for the fiscal year of 2022. Filing will resume once the program is approved by Congress for the fiscal year of 2023.

Under the Uniting for Ukraine program, the Department of Homeland Security may grant humanitarian parole to eligible individuals who have an approved sponsor in the United States.

Humanitarian parole allows lawful entry to the United States for a temporary period of time. Ukrainians already present in the U.S. cannot apply for humanitarian parole under this program, nor can children who are not accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian.

To begin the application process, a U.S.-based sponsor must complete Form I-134 Affidavit of Support online: Uniting for Ukraine | USCIS.

U.S. Citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents can petition US Citizenship and Immigration Services for certain specific family members to begin the process of an immigrant visa. The U.S. Embassy in Frankfurt is currently processing immigrant visas for Ukrainians. Please consult with your nearest Immigration Legal Services office for assistance.

Eligible Ukrainians can apply for a temporary, non-immigrant visa in any country where they are physically present and there are appointments available. Each U.S. Embassy and Consulate has specific procedures and you should contact the embassy where you wish to apply directly. Non-immigrant visas do not provide permanent status to remain in the U.S.
