In partnership with the U.S. Department of State, we welcome refugees and support them during the initial resettlement period - the first 90 days after arrival. Whether it’s securing housing, supplying basic necessities, or enrolling children in school, we come alongside these families every step of the way as they begin a path to belonging.

At World Relief, we know that adjusting to a life in a new country, with new culture, language, and often even different climate takes a while. Our Extended Case Management program, also referred to as Health and Wellness, works with individuals after their initial resettlement months, to provide ongoing and specialized support including help navigating systems like healthcare and offering financial literacy trainings.

Refugee and immigrant kids face the unique challenges of adjusting to a new school system and educational expectations, while also trying to reestablish a sense of community and rootedness in a new culture. At World Relief Western Washington, our desire is to see children and families flourish and reach their fullest potential, despite the early obstacles they face upon immigrating. Our Youth & Family Services actively prepare refugee and immigrant children for a successful school experience and long-term cognitive and socio-emotional development by working with them and their families.

Learning English is a gateway to life in the U.S. Refugees and other immigrants come from a wide variety of linguistic backgrounds, but for those who do not yet have English skills, class fees can also be a barrier.

World Relief offers free English classes for adults in person and online for beginners to advanced learners.

Refugees and other immigrants bring incredible skills and experience with them when they arrive and are often eager to find a job to support their families. Unfortunately, immigrants often face challenges adapting their skills to the US workforce and the barriers to entry can be significant.

Our Employment Services meet individuals in this and helps them and offers support by providing job training, connecting them with employers, assisting with resumes and interview prep, and exploring career pathways.

Although the situations many refugees and immigrants find themselves in are vulnerable, they themselves are full of strength and tenacity. World Relief Western Washington's resiliency programs seek to support and multiply the inherent resiliency of refugees and immigrants by building bridges to resources and community. Currently we operate the Paradise Parking Plots Community Garden, offer Sewing Classes, and have a Commercial and Teaching Kitchen.

Every year, thousands of people pass through the ICE Detention Center in Tacoma, WA, one of the largest in the country. We offer a variety of services for those who are being detained and those who have just been released including multilingual worship services, window visits, temporary housing, and transportation coordination.
