World Refugee Day Century Challenge

Cyclists commit to the challenge and open a fundraising page using our super simple online platform. Each cyclist will determine their own route and logistics. Everyone who registers will be invited to regular online meetups to get to know other cyclists and explore a variety of educational topics relating to U.S. Immigration and Resettlement and how to have a successful century ride. On June 18th, we will share your progress on our Facebook and Instagram pages and collect photos and videos of riders supporting refugee resiliency all around Washington (and perhaps beyond!)

This is a self-planned, self-guided, and self-supported ride, but we also have ideas and resources to share if you want to plan something with a group! If you are interested in planning an in-person event with your church or workplace, but don't know where to start, reach out to us at stk@wr.org.

Do I actually have to ride 100 miles?

The ride is meant to be a challenge - 100 miles in one day! - but cyclists have chosen a variety of goals in the past, such as completing a metric century (100 km), riding a century over a weekend, or even walking 100 miles over the course of a week. Some cyclists don't think a century is enough of a challenge and opt to do several in a row! We believe a single-day century to be doable for casual cyclists who are willing to commit to appropriate preparation and spring training.

You can join another organized event on or around World Refugee Day, connect and make plans with other World Refugee Day cyclists, explore routes and segments on popular apps like Strava or Ride with GPS, or even complete your century on a smart trainer!

Nope! But we hope that if you set an ambitious cycling goal, you will also set an ambitious fundraising goal to match your effort - a hundred miles is a lot of miles! Also, you can start qualifying for some sweet fundraising prizes once you reach $500!"

The World Refugee Day Century is a state-wide fundraising event. In the interest of efficiency, this website and the fundraising platform are hosted by the Seattle office. Funds you raise will benefit refugees and asylees in all regions.

Yes! When you register you can join or create a fundraising team with any number of people -  such as your spouse or kids, a couple of buddies, or a group from your church or workplace. And if you decide to join or create a team after you register, just email stk@wr.org and we can sort it out for you. Your team page is a good place to work toward a shared fundraising goal and compile updates if you wish to keep your friends posted on your training progress. Fundraising prizes will be based on individual funds raised, unless otherwise agreed upon.

Sure! Children are welcome to create a fundraising page or piggyback on their parents' and also participate in the challenge as they are able. If a century is too much of a challenge for our younger riders, you might consider breaking it up into several days, or between several family members (e.g. all 4 of you ride 25 miles). If you join an in-person event, there may be restrictions or considerations for minors.
