Resettlement Assistant Volunteer

World Relief works with newly arriving refugees and asylees, and our casework teams need extra assistance picking people up from the airport and other transportation needs. This role supports the resettlement team with on-call transportation assistance and helping refugee and asylees get settled when they first arrive in the U.S.


  • Commitment: once a week for at least 6 months
  • Location: King County, in person
  • COVID-19 vaccine: required
  • Time: During airport arrivals (usually evenings)



  • Provide on-call transportation from the airport to temporary housing
  • Assist new arrivals with getting checked into the hotel, Airbnb, or other temporary housing locations
  • Commit to serve once a week
  • Work in a team of volunteers under the leadership of the caseworker and Resettlement Managers
  • Communicate consistently with the Resettlement Managers and caseworkers the needs and concerns of the families upon arrival
  • Work with families to assist them with getting them settled in for a few days, based on the direction of WRS staff
  • Drop off pocket money, cultural appropriate food, or groceries to newly arrived family


Requirements (please read carefully)

  • Sensitivity to persons of culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Current driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and COVID-19 vaccine record
  • Demonstrate patience, understanding, and flexibility
  • Complete the World Relief Volunteer Orientation and onboarding
  • Follow World Relief volunteer guidelines
  • Record and report monthly volunteer hours served, as detailed in the orientation
  • Pass a criminal background check and driving check each year
