Urge Congress to continue providing humanitarian assistance to those impacted by the conflict in Sudan
Over 74.1 million people who need humanitarian assistance globally are in East and Southern Africa, with the crisis in Sudan accounting for almost 40 percent of this number. Since civil war broke out in 2023, over 9 million people (about half the population of New York) have been forcibly displaced from their homes. The numbers of those displaced internally and seeking refuge in other countries continues to increase, stressing already fragile host/border communities in Chad, South Sudan, and other neighboring countries.
The populations Sudan, South Sudan, and its border regions are experiencing the highest levels of food insecurity ever recorded by the international community. Over 18 million people (about the population of New York) are acutely food insecure, which includes 3.6 million children (about twice the population of Nebraska) suffering from acute malnutrition.
World Relief has worked in Sudan for over 20 years and has country offices in Chad and South Sudan. World Relief is urging Congress to act to provide lifesaving food, water and sanitation (WASH), nutrition, and healthcare services to those suffering as a result of the conflict in Sudan.
