Sponsor a Refugee

The Welcome Corps is a new private sponsorship program from the U.S. government that allows groups of 5 or more people to sponsor and resettle refugees. Private sponsorship groups will be fully responsible for welcoming and resettling refugees by preparing initial housing, greeting refugee newcomers at the airport, enrolling children in school, helping adults find employment and more. Sponsors can also offer a sense of belonging and inclusion, making it easier for refugees to adjust to life in the U.S. and integrate into their new communities.  

There are two phases to the Welcome Corps. In the first and current phase of the program, private sponsors approved to participate in the Welcome Corps will be matched with refugees who have already been approved for resettlement to the United States. The second phase of the program (which is not yet active) will allow private sponsorship groups to identify specific refugees whom they wish to sponsor.

Partner with one of World Relief’s local offices as a Good Neighbor Team. A Good Neighbor Team is a small group of people, typically from a local church or community organization, who partners with World Relief to welcome and walk alongside newcomers. World Relief offices have been engaging local Good Neighbor Teams to welcome refugees in their communities for decades. Connect with a World Relief office near you you learn more about what engagement opportunities they have. 

Become a Welcome Corps Private Sponsor Group. As a Private Sponsor Group, you will be partnered with a newcomer family and commit to supporting them through their process of being resettled in the city or town where you live. World Relief is proud to serve the Welcome Corps as a Private Sponsor Organization. World Relief utilizes our decades-long experience mobilizing groups through our Good Neighbor Team program, to provide quality guidance and coaching to the Private Sponsor Groups. 

Those interested in partnering with World Relief in private sponsorship can fill out this form to receive more information. All private Sponsorship Groups will be required to go through Welcome Corps’ application and vetting process which you can begin at any time on the Welcome Corps website. 

Sponsor someone from Ukraine, Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua or Venezuela. The I-134A process is specifically for sponsorship of displaced people from these countries and is another form of private sponsorship.  In some cases World Relief may be able to partner in providing coaching and support to those sponsoring through this process.
