World Relief Cup
Tournament Specific FAQs
Games will be conducted on synthetic turf fields (full or half depending on bracket). There will be 30-minute halves, with a 5-minute half-time, making for 60-minute games. Games will be refereed by paid officials. During the group stage, we will use a point system. For the bracket, tied games will go directly to penalty kicks (first to 3 wins). The bracket will be set up in groups, ensuring 2 - 4 games for each registered team.
Games prior to the championship game of each bracket will take place from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Championship games will take place at 6:00 pm
Official FIFA rule shall apply in all situations with the exception of the following modifications:
No slide tackles
Note: Shinguards are required. Players without shinguards will be sent off the field and may not return until they are wearing them.
Goalkeeper Rule Clarification
- A goalkeeper is not permitted to keep control of the ball in their hands for more than six seconds. A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball:
- while the ball is between their hands or between their hand and any surface (e.g. ground, own body)
- while holding the ball in their outstretched open hand
- while in the act of bouncing it on the ground or tossing it into the air
- When a goalkeeper has gained possession of the ball with their hands, they cannot be challenged by an opponent.
- A goalkeeper is not permitted to touch the ball with their hand inside their own penalty area in the following circumstances:
- if they handle the ball again after it has been released from their possession and have not touched any other player
- if they touch the ball with their hands after it has been deliberately kicked to them by a teammate
- if they touch the ball with their hands after they have received it directly from a throw-in taken by a teammate
Handball Rule Clarification
- Law 12 of FIFA’s laws of the game states that a direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player (other than the goalkeeper within their own penalty area) handles the ball deliberately.
- Translation: Not all hand-to-ball contact is a ‘handball’
Substitution Rule Clarification
- Players may be substituted on any dead ball.
- The referee must be informed before any substitution is made, substitutes shall only enter the field after the referee has signaled the substitute to come onto the field.
- The number of substitutes shall be unlimited. Any player removed from the match may re-enter the match an unlimited number of times, at a stoppage of the match as specified.
Code of Conduct
- Good sporting behavior will be observed in all games. Respect for players, coaches, officials, and spectators is essential for amateur competition and fair play.
- There will also be no littering, no profanity, no hitting or aggression, no altering of facility properties, and no food on the fields.

The winning team will not only get a trophy and medals, but our partners at RAVE Foundation are providing players of the winning team with Seattle Sounders tickets to a match where the winning team will be highlighted!
We will accept stand-ins on the day of the event. Please notify staff during the check-in process if you are filling in for a registered player. You will need to complete a waiver.
Co-ed ratios must still be maintained with stand-ins and subs.
Recreational:
- 8 v 8 games
- Playing on half-fields
- Minimum of 11 players on a team
Competitive Bracket will be merged with recreational for 2023.
Players must be at least 16 years old at the time of the tournament. Anyone of age may play in the tournament.
Additionally, the tournament is co-ed. This means that there must be both male and female players on the field at all times. Please see below for details:
Recreational:
- Goalie may be male or female
- Of the other 7 players active on the field, 3 must be females
Registration takes place on an individual level, not a team level, meaning each player must register, complete the waiver, pay the registration costs, and get a page to fundraise an additional $40+.
Teams are formed when a captain chooses "create a team" during their own registration process. After the team has been created, other individuals can choose "join a team" to find their crew during their own registration process.
Registration is open now until Friday, June 2nd.
You can begin the registration process here.
For each player: $60 registration fee + $40 fundraising minimum
To play in the tournament, in both recreational, and competitive brackets, there is a $60 registration cost that includes an event jersey, lunch, and 2 to 4 60-minute games.
Along with registration costs, each player must reach an additional $40 fundraising minimum by June 10th. This is an opportunity to invite family and friends in to support World Relief's refugee resettlement services through a personal fundraising page/link provided after registration.
If a player chooses not to fundraise or does not meet the minimum $40, they will be charged the remaining balance following the event on June 11th, 2023.
We are passionate about welcoming our new neighbors to our community and invite you to join us as you raise support for World Relief.
There is a $40 fundraising minimum for all tournament players. Some players will choose to fundraise above and beyond that. We have a few fun prizes for the teams and individuals who fundraise the most.
Those who do not meet the minimum $40 will be charged the remainder after the event on June 10th. If you don't want to fundraise and don't want to wait for your card to be charged, you can make the $40 donation yourself here, but must link it to your fundraising page by typing your name in the search field for teams/fundraisers.
