On Aug. 26, 2026, catastrophic flash floods swept through parts of the Nepal-Tibet border region, triggering widespread destruction and leaving communities facing immense loss and devastation. Entire villages were swept away, homes and businesses disappeared into the raging waters and damaged roads and bridges have restricted access for affected communities and humanitarian responders.
The disaster has devastated countless families across Nepal and beyond, but with your support and with local partners, World Relief is stepping in to bring critical aid where it’s needed most. Here are three things you need to know:
1. What’s Happening After the Nepal floods
Following the floods in Nepal, more than 1,000 people have been confirmed dead and nearly 4,000 remain missing across the affected Himalayan region. Those still unaccounted for include families, children, Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims and international travelers, including 90 American citizens.
The Government of Nepal has mobilized emergency response teams, security forces and local authorities to support ongoing search, rescue and relief efforts. However, the scale of the disaster has overwhelmed available resources and significant needs remain. Many families have lost loved ones, homes, livelihoods and access to basic necessities.
2. How World Relief is Responding
Together with you, World Relief is mobilizing a rapid humanitarian response to support families affected by the floods. Through our partnership with Mission East, a fellow member of the Integral Alliance — a global alliance of Christian relief and development agencies — we are able to activate support where needs are greatest.
We will support flood-affected households to meet their most urgent needs while laying the foundation for early recovery, providing emergency food, temporary shelter materials, essential household supplies, safe water and hygiene items and tailored support for individuals with disabilities.
Our initial response aims to reach approximately 1,500 people or 300 households in some of the hardest-hit communities, prioritizing families who face the greatest risks, including female-headed households, households with elderly or disabled members and families with young children.
Mission East and its local partners on the ground have established relationships and operational capacity, enabling aid to be delivered quickly and effectively. As assessments continue, the response will expand to additional flood-affected communities as needs emerge.
